Lia Bartha is the Brooklyn-based creator of B The Method, a revolutionary low-impact exercise inspired by her fifteen years of extensive Pilates training and teaching. Her clients include New York Times best selling author Jenny Mollen, actress Aubrey Plaza, and model Martha Hunt.
Bartha launched B The Method, a fitness app and online platform where users can gain access to hours of her unique restorative yet challenging pilates classes as well as live-streaming.
Bartha grew up in Hawaii dancing ballet. She created B The Method to strengthen and restore her own body. As a former dancer struggling with scoliosis and multiple injuries, she was working a corporate job in Los Angeles, maxing out on cardio and feeling worn-out, stressed-out and out of shape at the same time. After discovering Pilates and the benefits of meditation and mindfulness, she realized that exercise didn’t have to be depleting to be challenging and strengthening.
“My goal was to strip away all of the noise, all of the useless extras, leaving something grounding, present and real. So for years, while I trained my clients in classical Pilates, I mixed in some exercises I was developing with a small stability ball - a light, portable and multifunctional prop. I discovered that Pilates foundations, mixed with ballet and swimming-inspired motions, tapped into every layer of muscle in the body while forming a flow-state within the mind,” says Bartha.
B The Method opened up its first studio in Brooklyn, where Bartha lives with her two young children and husband, actor Justin Bartha.
